Hawaii is made up of eight large islands, along with many small ones. Hawaii is the land of volcanoes. The world's tallest mountain, an inactive volcano named Mauna Kea, is a part of the islands. It rises to a towering 33,476 feet from the ocean floor, which is way above the height of Mount Everest from sea level. The islands of Hawaii were all formed by the solidification of molten magma from the volcanoes, and Mauna Kea is considered to be the reason behind formation of the largest island in the state.
